West Virginia’s Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), offers many sports that children of all ages can participate in. AAU allows children to expend their talent through different sports they find interesting. The Amateur Athletic Union hosts many of their big events in the capital city of Charleston, WV. The events vary anywhere from basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, to track and field. These events are offered during the off seasons so the players can keep their momentum going. The little league board ensures that the field is in great condition for each season and makes it special for the teams and their families.

WV Chaos

Looking for a fun way to spend your summer? Charleston, WV offers a variety of seasonal sports that can be entertaining and fun for all. One of the sports that stands out in the Kanawha Valley is soccer.

The Charleston Chaos crew is a soccer team that plays during the summer months at the Schoenbaum Stadium located in Coonskin Park. The team started in 2003 and has attracted many fans and followers to the capital city of West Virginia. The team is a part of the USL Premier Development League (PDL), which is a section of the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

The Chaos Crew plays many teams all over the United States that include the states of Virginia, Carolina, Maryland and many others. The team takes pride in their team colors which are white, red, and black and demonstrates their ability out on the home field. Tickets are available through phone or email to purchase single match tickets, season passes, or group rates.

YMCA Corporate Cup

Want to promote fitness within your business, but don’t know where to begin? Well, Charleston, West Virginia’s YMCA hosts the Corporate Cup every year that involves friendly competition and fun. This event has been held in West Virginia for 26 years and continues to grow.

Don’t let your corporation miss the chance to participate in a variety of sports varying from softball, horseshoes, darts, billiards, volleyball, tennis, swimming, corn hole, track and field, and many other events. The teams who are competing in the events are split into divisions according to how many employers they have. Companies with 1-80 employers would be categorized in Division I, 81-300 would be placed in Division II, and 301 or would be in Division III. The teams are sorted evenly so that one team isn’t out numbering its opponent. However, if your company does not have enough employers to make a team, you can always combine with other businesses to form one.

The teams must to be well aware of the rules and regulations that are required by the Corporate Cup staff. Everyone must abide by the policies and play fair in order to encourage safety while competing in the action.

These are all lessons to help improve your golf game and enforce the rules and/or regulations of the sport. They have lessons starting with beginners all the way to advanced players that are taught by golf teaching professionals.

You can chose from five different types of memberships when you sign up and they consist of Classic Membership, Executive Distinction, Senior (Age 65+), Young Processional (Age 18-30), and Corporate Membership. Each level includes benefits that will fit your lifestyle and help you become a talented golfer.

Soap Box Derby

Come and experience the magic of Kanawha Valley Soap Box Derby each year! Watching the Soap Box Derby sport cars race through the mountainous terrains of West Virginia is a can’t-miss activity.

The competition is held in South Charleston, WV located just a few minutes from downtown Charleston. This area provides a unique spot in Little Creek Park where the derby takes place. During the competition, the park fills with fans that cheer and yell for the young racers to win. Also, you do not want to miss the chance to see the creative designs the children decorate their cars with.

There are various categories that the competitors can place in and they consist of Stock Division, Super Stock Division, and Master Division. The winners in each division are eligible to race in the International Soap Box Derby Championship held in Akron, Ohio. This final race determines who will be titled the World Champion in each division.

Chemical Valley Rollergirls

Charleston, WV provides recreational games for all ages and we want you to witness the action!

The Chemical Valley Roller Girls (CVRG) are just one of these unique sports experiences! You will not want to miss them dominate the sport of roller derby. Watching this fast-pace sport will guarantee a good time with the thrill and excitement it brings.
CVRG was the first female flat-track roller derby league in West Virginia and was created in November of 2008. This sport provides positive entertainment to the fans and also promotes friendly competition between the teams. The girls face fierce competition in many events including Silence of the Jams, Demolition City Derby Dames, Fanglorious Fist Blood Bout, and the Post Tax Smack. These difficult games can vary between scrimmages to a single game. No matter what kind of challenge they are faced with; they always bring their A game and strive for the big win.

The Chemical Valley Rollergirls are very blessed to have such a wonderful community who support them. To show their appreciation, the girls participate in charity work and volunteer as much as they can, even with their busy schedule. The team is an all volunteer league that always finds the time to give back to their community. The girls contributed to the First Annual Pizza Fest, located in Huntington, by creating a booth that displayed many items for purchase. Also they participated in the Race For the Cure. These are just a few contributions that the girls took part it and they continue to do what they can to help out.

The WV Power

The West Virginia Power Baseball Team invites you and your family to come and experience a day at the ball park as they strike out their opponents with their home field advantage.

Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, WV, Appalachian Power Park serves as the primarily field to the WV Power, which is a South Atlantic (SALLY) Minor League team that is Class A affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The field was opened in 2005 due to the aged Watt Powell Park that was positioned across from the Kanawha River. The stadium offers sitting for around 6,000 people that provides a comfortable atmosphere for all to enjoy.

The renovated baseball field has brought joy to the Capital City with many activities that are fun for all ages. You do not want to miss out on the great opportunities the Power Park has to offer that include anywhere from specials to entertainment. The week starts off with the infamous family buck night that allows you to purchase admission tickets, hot dogs, 12oz fountain drinks, and popcorn for only one dollar! The specials continue with two-for-Tuesday’s, which allows you to participate in the buy one ticket get one for FREE deal hosted by KRAFT Singles. Adults can come and enjoy a 16oz ice cold beer and relax on Thursday’s for Thirsty Thursday night after a long day of work. Then you can end the work week with Friday night fireworks after the baseball game presented by V100. All these opportunities are available all through the week so you can make your baseball experience affordable, but also enjoyable.

The Public Courts

Every year Charleston, WV hosts the Charleston Public Courts Tennis Tournament. Located in the Kanawha City neighborhood of Charleston, the public courts are the perfect location for tournament play. This tennis tournament accumulates many competitors along with their friends and families for one of the biggest tennis matches of the year.

Charleston, WV is known for equipped indoor and outdoor tennis courts that are perfect for tournaments and leisure matches. The tennis matches are scattered around three different well-appointed courts that include Charleston Tennis Club, Coonskin Park, and Watt Powell. These tennis courts are hard surfaced with plenty comfortable seating for everyone. The Watt Powell and Charleston Tennis Club courts also provide indoor tennis courts that some matches may be held on.
Any member of the United States Tennis Association is welcome to participate in the tournament and there is not selection process necessary. The seeds for the tournaments consist of men and women open singles, open doubles, singles, doubles, and combined mixed doubles.
The competition is tough every year, but great competitors are recognized from the week long tournament. Come to Charleston and experience fast moving tennis ball fly across each tennis court as the competitors fight for the number one title in each seed.
